A Night at the Movies

Golden Week is noted as a high point in Japan’s movie season and I can make two strong recommendations for the coming holiday.  ‘No Country for Old Men’ is a brilliant cat-and-mouse thriller starring Tommy Lee Jones (taking time out from his day job of promoting Boss coffee) whilst ‘There Will Be Blood’ is a slightly weaker film but features a brilliant performance from Daniel Day-Lewis, for which he won an Oscar.

Of course, ladies should take full advantage of Wednesday’s lower ticket price and gentlemen ought to go on the first of the month. Everybody else can go anytime.

Animal lovers please note that NCFOM doesn’t actually feature any cats or mice 🙂

  • They both sound good, I’ll have to check them out. I really like the cat and mouse element of the ‘Bourne Trilogy’ too-great action/conspiracy stuff. Unrelated but still films-I was re-watching ‘The Matrix’ the other night and thinking how quickly it’s dated although it really wowed me at the time. Great sci-fantasy no-brainer though-exactly my kind of thing! But also one of those films I really wish they’d left at one and not gone for the money spinning trilogy. Except the money spinning trilogy’s pretty much inevitable nowadays if there’re bums on seats. (As with ‘Bourne’ etc). But that’s quite enough film warbling from me-although I must say I’ve also been maxing out on TV drama as well. ‘Lost’ season 3 was really enjoyable hokum for me with a couple of stand out episodes. I’ve now got my eye on the ‘Rome’ TV series, it’s an English-Italian co-production. As with music-too much stuff, too little time!
