Bread and Butter Pudding (Again)

I asked my mother to send me the recipe she uses to make bread and butter pudding. Here it is:

Bread and Butter Pudding

Ingredients

  • 6 slices buttered bread

  • 25g sugar

  • 50g sultanas

  • 1 egg

  • 300ml milk

  • grated nutmeg (if liked)

Method

  • Place the buttered bread slices in pairs (buttered sides together) and cut into triangles

  • Place the triangles in a suitable dish, half overlapping, and sprinkling the sultanas between the slices

  • Beat together the egg and milk and pour over the bread

  • Sprinkle with the sugar and leave to stand for about half an hour and then bake in a preheated oven at 180C/160CFan for 30-40 minutes until set and golden brown

There are many variations of this recipe such as adding more sugar, replacing some of the milk with cream, adding candied peel etc, but this is the one I always use.
