仕事の休み時間のことです。

ルーシー：私、無性に今、何か甘い物が食べたいの。何か持ってない？

同僚　　：ごめんなさい。持ってないわ。でも、私も何か甘い物を食べたいから、

　　　　　ソニープラザかどこかに行こうよ。ショートブレッドが買えるよ。

ルーシー：I’ve got an irresistible urge to eat something sweet now!

　　　　　Have you got anything?

同僚　　：I’m sorry, I haven’t, but I fancy eating something sweet too

【解説】

★I’ve got an irresistible urge to eat ～＝無性に～が食べたいのです。

★something sweet＝何か甘い物

★Have you got ～＝～を持っていますか?

★anything＝何か（疑問文で）

★I’m sorry＝ごめんなさい

★fancy＝～したい

★somewhere＝どこか（肯定文で）

　＊慣用句的な‘・・・or something/somewhere/someone’の使い方。

　例ーWhy don’t you take an aspirin or something?

　　＝アスピリンか何か飲めば？

　例ーI think they’ve moved to Manchester or somewhere.

　　＝彼らはマンチェスターかどこかに引っ越したと思うよ。

　例ーI saw you standing outside the bank with your brother or someone.

　　＝あなたが兄弟か誰かと銀行の前で立っているのを見たよ。

★get ＝買う

★shortbread＝シュートブレッド（スコットランドのお菓子）

みなさん、ブリティッシュのビスケット、お菓子かケーキを食べたことがありま

すか?

ブリテンには人気があり、良く知られているビスケットとケーキがあるんですよ。

例えば、バターがたっぷり含んであるので、濃厚な味のショートブレッド。これ

は、伝統的なスコットランドのビスケットかケーキです。実は私の好物です。あ

と、スコーンです。スコーンをダブルクリーム（乳脂肪濃度の高いクリーム）と

ジャムとで食べると。絶対に美味しいと思うはずです。また、クランペットです。

形は丸くて小さい穴がすみからすみまであいています。どの様に食べるかという

と、クランペットをトーストして焼き、そしてバターを塗るんです。味は結構独

特です。

もし、機会があれば、食べてみるべきだと思います。ティーケーキもまた美味し

いです。これもトーストして焼いてバターを塗るんです。ティーケーキはフルー

ツの皮が砂糖で固められている物とドライフルーツが入っています。普通は紅茶

を飲む時に食べます。

Hello, everybody!

Have you ever eaten any British biscuits, sweets or cakes?

There are some popular and well-known biscuits and cakes in Britain.

For example, shortbread, which contains a lot of butter and therefore

has a rich taste. It’s a traditional Scottish biscuit or cake.

Actually, it’s my favorite. And scones. If you eat them with double

cream and jam, I can assure you you’ll find them absolutely delicious!

And then there are crumpets. Their shape is round and they’ve got

little holes running through them. How you eat them is you toast them

and then spread some butter on them. The taste is quite distinctive.

I think you should try eating them if you have the opportunity.

Teacakes are also nice. Again, you toast them and spread butter on

them. They contain candied peel and dried fruit. Normally, you have

them with tea.

★‘ absolutely＝断然、全く’を付ける形容詞を学びましょう！

　これらの形容詞には既に‘very’が含まれているので、

　もし強調したい時は‘absolutely’を付けましょう。
