Holiday

Really enjoyed Lake Kawaguchi and environs and finally climbed Mount Fuji! The forest and caves around the base of the mountain were all very atmospheric. Plus temperatures around 24 degrees all the time-lovely! I foolishly pronounced the hot weather was over, only to return to 34/35 degrees in Tokyo and Chiba. Which is not so lovely but hopefully about to change.

Fireworks

Enjoyed the Nakayama Keibajo fireworks display at the weekend-very colourful! I love fireworks, always find them quite nostalgic. Couldn’t believe the Funabashi display was cancelled this year though-it’s been so hot then chooses the two possible nights to be stormy. Anyway, very much looking forward to the holiday, westwards to begin with, mountains and countryside and just maybe a little cooler?! (Okay, that’s insanely optimistic.)

スパイシーカレー

墨田区のとあるカレー屋さんを紹介したいと思います。　

下町の住宅街にあるこのお店は、場所が説明しづらい上に外観はとてもお店には見えないのです。一面、蔦で覆われた建物が目印というくらいです。中に入ると古い家を改造した不思議な空間が広がり、、ギャラリーも併設されています。

お昼時だったので店内は大繁盛！選んだのは“ペアカレーランチ”という、好きなカレーを２種選べるメニュー。これに飲物とデザートが付いてお腹もかなり満足。この本格的なカレーの味と独特な雰囲気が人気の秘密であることはよーく分かりました。一度来たらまた来たくなる・・・のですが、あまりの人気で予約を取るのは難しいようです。

Weekend

Had a nice time pootling around Ometesando/Harajuku/Shibuya(Tower Records Alert!)/Ginza and Ueno. I love watching the world go by when the seats are set up in the middle of the street in Ginza on Sunday. Very relaxing. Also stocked up on some Muji curries-the Butter Chicken is my favourite. Their Yellow Curry was good but now they seem to have upped the spice factor. I definitely prefer mild to medium curry-the Muji Red and Green are way too strong for me, although possibly good if you want to spontaneously combust via the medium of curry.

うなぎの味

今度の月曜日は土用の丑の日だそうで、うなぎの広告が目につきます。

うなぎと言うと、初めて食べたのが高校生の時。親戚の家で出されたのが最初の出会

いで、少々抵抗はあったもののあの甘ダレのおかげで美味しく食べた記憶があります。

今では好物の１つになり、ウナギときくと思わず頬が緩みます。

夏ばて予防の意味を込めて、美味しいうなぎを頂きましょう！

Too Hot!

I mean, really, this is just getting silly hot now isn’t it? Think I had my first encounter with natsubate last week-no appetite at all! Loved the weather comment on the translated news last night, that it would be ‘unbearably hot’ today! Not sure if it was an accurate translation or the translator was just venting her true feelings! I certainly agree with her-autumn please!
